Harrowing new photo book shows passion of Nikki Sixx

Since he recovered from drug addiction in the 1980s, Motley Crue bassist Nikki Six has replaced the vice with photography.

The infamous star takes his camera with him everywhere, capturing some interesting images along the way.

It is these shots which have formed the base for his latest tome, a photobook called This is Gonna Hurt - Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx.

Images from the road, spontaneous shots and pre-organised conceptualised pictures make up the bulk of the photo book, which reflects Sixx's constant search for macabre beauty.

He told Noisecreep: "[Photography] is like music, it's always in my head and in my blood, the concept of where the next picture might come from. Maybe it's the way a cloud looks. The randomness of nature, the desire to capture what is happening in real time around me. It takes over. And so I'm never without a camera. You just never know when something will need to be captured."

Nikki Sixx rose to fame with heavy metal band Motley Crue, but has enjoyed many side projects, including other musical ventures, book work, and radio appearances.
