Memorial photo book launched in Singapore

A photo book put together following the death of former deputy prime minister S. Rajarathnam was launched this week at the National Library Board (NLB) in Singapore.

President S R Nathan led the proceedings, which celebrated the release of the book containing photos taken by the politician.

The book, which is called Private Passion: The Photographs of Pioneer Politician and Diplomat S. Rajartnam, has been published by the Institute of Southeast Studies, and features more than 100 photographs taken by the minister, Srtraits Times reported.

It contains and introductory essay about Mr Rajaratnam, his political life and his love of photography, which began as a law student in London.

Pictures included in the book begin in these early days and continue through his political career, when he travelled extensively, and beyond, when he retired from politics.

Mr Rajaratnam died in 2006 following a long battle with dementia which left him unable to move or speak in the later years of his life. He was just three days shy of his 91st birthday when he died.
