Poor Prince William, just days after his wedding to Kate Middleton he was back on his base on Anglesey working, and today the royal has to spend his 29th birthday doing exactly the same.

Unlike other recent celebrations, including his grandfather Prince Philip's 90th birthday, Prince William has made this a low-key event.

Maybe it is not surprising, given the pomp and circumstance which surrounded his wedding, and an impending tour or Canada and LA, but in his first year of marriage it is to be hoped he and Kate have some pictures to follow on from the wedding photobook!

Whether it is just a nice meal for the two of them, an evening out with friends, or a small family event with his father, brother and step-mother, the photos would make a lovely addition to a photobook documenting Will and Kate's first year as a married couple.

Previous birthday celebrations for the heir to the throne included a party at Buckingham Palace, which was crashed by a comedy terrorist dressed as Osama Bin Laden.
