Carla Bruni looked every inch the supermodel mother-to-be as she took a casual stroll her husband the French prime minister Nicholas Sarkozy.

The first lady of France and her husband were on a break at the Ford de Bregancon, a presidential retreat situated on the Mediterranean coast.

This will be Carla's first child and Sarkozy's fourth, so he'll be fairly clued-up about the importance of capturing memories of the birth in a memory book.

The couple may also wish to capture memories from their last holiday just the two of them in photobook to enjoy in years to come.

Wearing a fitted white summer dress, sunglasses, simple sandals and a straw hat, Carla oozed effortless French chic, while Sarkozy attempted to up his own fashion credentials by wearing loafers without socks.

Perhaps he is up on the latest trend for men to show off their ankles, appropriately called "mankles".

After taking a romantic leisurely walk along to the beach the couple decided to cool off with a welcome dip in the sea.

Carla was with inflatable supports in the water, helping her take the stress off of her legs.
