Photography tips: How to get over photographer's block

Writers get writer's block, painters get painter's block, dancers get dancer's block and photographers get photographer's block.

If you're in a bit of a rut as of late, don't worry, it happens to the best of us. We can't be super creative all the time. These three tips will help you when things aren't going your way.

Shoot a picture everyday of the year for a whole year and record all the images in a photobook. Some pictures will be brilliant, some average and in all honesty, some will be dire. But it's an achievement nonetheless, something to look back on for inspiration.

Imitate the great images. If you're trying to improve your photography, see if you can duplicate some classic images. It's not as easy as you think as lighting, composition and angles will have to be considered. It's a great way of learning the tools of the trade through experience.

Find a subject or an object and shoot it all day. Okay, maybe not all day, but you get the "picture". This is a useful technique that forces you to respond to one static image in a number of creative ways until the best shot materialises. After all, many great pictures are the result of hard work.
