Photography tutor recognised for contribution to education

A photography tutor who taught students the basics of good photography has been honoured by the Royal Photographic Society.

Paul Delmar, 65, who spent 30 years teaching aspiring photojournalists the essential skills needed to make it in the industry, has won the inaugural National Council for the Training of Journalists Education Award.

Speaking to holdthefrontpage.co.uk, Mr Delmar said: "It was totally unexpected and I was quite honoured to be ranked amongst the greatest names in the world.

"I'm absolutely over the moon. I had an email that said 100 per cent of people had voted for me."

He has encouraged generations of hopeful photojournalists to develop detailed and thoughtful photobooks to showcase their work for prospective employers.

The new award is presented to people who have shown outstanding achievement or sustained contribution in the field of photographic education.

In 2009, Mr Delmar won the lifetime achievement category of the learning and skills improvement service STAR Awards.
