Powerful photography exhibition goes on show in Blackburn

A powerful photography exhibition created by survivors of domestic violence is now on show at Blackburn Museum.

Around 20 former victims of domestic abuse who attend the Wish Centre in Blackburn got together to come up with ideas and themes for the show and then got to taking the pictures, reported the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 16 pictures tell a story of the abuse cycle, taking viewers on a visual journey from the darkness at the beginning to the light at the end of it.

Speaking to the newspaper, Lucy Heywood, of Blackburn Women's Aid, said: "We wanted the work to show the journey of the people involved.

"It starts with photographs going from the dark, at the start of the abuse, to the light when they are free from it."

According to Women's Aid, domestic violence is physical, sexual, psychological or financial violence that takes place within an intimate or family-type relationship and that forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour.
