After a century in the doldrums, the horsemaning photography craze returns

It looks like another photography craze is getting its legs tested again with horsemaning making a surprise comeback on the back of planking.

A quick browse through some of the photobooks at the turn of the 20th century will reveal that the current craze of horsemaning, which is proving to be a hit online, was as popular back then as it is now.

The shots are styled in such a way as to show people with their heads in apparently obscure positions from their body.

The images tend to be of people apparently holding their heads, which look like they've come off in a matter-of-fact kind of a way, like a Lego-man's head would.

One of the images touring the web is of a man having a drink of beer even though his head is a strange distance away from his body.

The craze comes on the back of planking, which saw photographers capturing images of people simply lying face down in unusual places.

Another brief fad was owling, which had people copying the poise of an owl.
