New food photography award kicks off

The inaugural Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year award was launched yesterday.

Specialising on the deliciously tasty world of food photography, the award celebrates the fantastic style of imagery that is produced in this genre.

Open to all professionals and amateurs with a sharp eye for what makes a good food picture, there is an amazing prize of £5,000 for the overall winner.

The awards cover nine categories including Food Portraiture, Food in the Field, Food in the Place, Food for Sale, and the aptly titled "Cream of the Crop" title.

In a sign that the organisers mean serious business, the awards will be judged by an extensive number of distinguished experts in the field of photography as well as in food.

This includes the Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens, the award-winning chef and food stylist Rachel Green, president of the Guild of Food Writers Jane Suthering and the renowned photographer Michael Powell.
