Nature photography competition launched

The Scottish Seabird Centre has launched its sixth annual photography award, inviting amateur photographers from around the world to submit entries from their photobooks and cameras.

Applicants have to enter a photograph that matches the specification of each category. For example, landscape pictures must be of shots of land, the sea or coastal hotspots, whereas worldwide wildlife asks photographers to submit images of animals and birdlife from around the world.

Tom Brock, OBE, chief executive of Scottish Seabird Centre, said: "Our annual photography awards are popular with people worldwide and we have always been hugely impressed with the level of entries.

"For our sixth year we are really looking for amateur photographers to excel themselves and whether young or old, novice or experienced, to have a go at winning one of the coveted awards."

The reference to the high-quality photography is not to be underestimated if the choice of judges is anything to go by.

Casting their critical eye over this year's entries will be Laurie Campbell, who is one of Scotland's leading natural history and landscape photographers and Graham Riddell, who has worked on a number of high profile photography projects in the country.

The closing date for entries is October 31st and there is a £5 charge for each entry.
