Mobile phones gets closer to 3D pictures

The endless technological possibilities of mobile phones continues to show no signs of slowing down with the latest Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S able to take 3D photographs on a standard 2D camera.

It works by taking a multiple pictures, which it then "stitches" together to create the depth of field needed to be seen in 3D.

However, there is a catch – people will not be able to view the images in 3D on the mobile phone itself but on technological devices that have a 3D function built into it.

For example, a picture is taken using the camera, which is then connected to a 3D HD TV using an HDMI output.

The image is then viewed with or without glasses depending on the model of the TV.

With the Nintendo 3DS showing that 3D can be achieved without glasses, this latest development from Sony could be the first step in mobile phones possessing the ability to show 3D images on their very own screens.

But remember, when it comes to printing off these images as a poster or print, they will be in 2D.

If your phone has good access to the web, you can link it up to a website that does all the hard work for you.
