New photography festival to build on Bradford's film status

A new festival of photography is launching in Bradford next month as the city looks to build upon its UNESCO city of film status.

Entitled Ways of Looking, the festival will be held across eight different venues in the city over a month-long period.

Photographers will have loads of inspiration for shooting pictures for their respective photobooks as on show will be work by Daniel Meadows, Donovan Wylie, Jeremy Deller and Douglas Gordon to name but a few.

Anne McNeil, director of Impressions Gallery and co-founder of the festival, told the Yorkshire Post: "I think the reputation of Bradford is a misperception.

"People perceive Bradford as a certain thing, as a city on its uppers, but it has beautiful buildings, the university, it has been named the city of film and it has this great swell of cultural activity happening all around the city."

The festival has been organised by Impressions Gallery, National Media Museum and the Culture Company.

Its partners include Bradford Grid, Bradford Museums and Galleries, Fabric, Gallery II University of Bradford and Leeds Met Gallery and Studio Theatre.

Ways of Looking runs from October 1stuntil October 30th.
