Depths of Chugach revealed in a new photo book

At this time of year the eyes of outdoor enthusiasts all over the US turn on the Chugach State Park in Alaska.

Activities are rife among the hills and valleys of the park, but off the beaten path there are miles and miles of unexplored territory, just waiting to be discovered by the intrepid explorer.

Photographer Carl Battreall has now saved people the hassle, after published pictures of the less frequented parts of the park in a new photo book, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Chugach State Park: Alaska's Backyard Wilderness may be the first glossy photobook dedicated entirely to this popular space.

The photographer spent a long time cataloguing the different parts of the park and aimed to capture the sights that many people miss on their day trips, camping holidays and family picnics.

He told the news provider: "I was most impressed with the upper Peters Creek valley, especially Rumble Pass and the amazing Bellicose Peak. I was also reminded how spectacular the upper Eagle River valley is. I took my time and explored the many side valleys. People like to just blow through that trail, usually in a day. But they are missing a really special part of the Chugach."

Chugach covers almost 500,000 acres of Anchorage in Alaska.
